The VTC Telecommunications Engineering Specialist provides comprehensive support for multimedia, video teleconferencing (VTC), telephone, and commercial internet services. This role requires expertise in VTC equipment, software, collaboration tools, telephone systems, and internet connectivity, along with strong customer service and troubleshooting skills. The Technician will set up, operate, and maintain these systems, provide user training, and ensure seamless communication and collaboration capabilities.
This individual will manage telephone and voicemail services (including VoIP), coordinate with service providers, support commercial internet connectivity, manage VTC systems (including classified VTCs), provide multimedia support, and train users on all supported platforms. They will also recommend and support procurement of related equipment. A successful candidate will have a proven track record of supporting these diverse systems and excellent technical skills.
Equipment/Systems:
This position requires frequent use of VTC equipment (bridges, CODECs, cameras, microphones, speakers), telephone systems (VoIP phones, voicemail systems), network equipment, computers, and collaboration tools (Microsoft Teams, Zoom, etc.). Knowledge of SIPR, JWICS, GVS-S, and SAP (AF7) networks is highly desirable.
Competencies: The role requires a high attention to detail, accuracy, and a strong understanding of audio-visual equipment, networking, and telecommunications technologies. Technical proficiency in these systems and equipment is essential. The ability to work independently and as part of a team is crucial.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
This job operates primarily in an office or conference room setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers. Duties may require lifting of computer equipment, using ladders, walking large office buildings, and loading/unloading of boxes, containers, or trucks.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time exempt position; typical work hours and days are Monday through Friday, regular business hours; additional hours as needed to support meetings, events, and troubleshooting.
Travel: Primarily local travel for user support
